Great Awake Coach 5 year anniversary. What have I learned? What is the next stage?
1 personal coaching spot left for mid-August to mid-September...
The Great Awake Coach Project began with a Tweet on June 8, 2018.
I refer to GAC as a “project” for several reasons.
I was never concerned about the front-end of coaching - the act of actually coaching people. I could have started a decade ago, but I don’t think I would have been as effective as I am now. In retrospect, I’m glad I waited to teach.
The back-end of the business however, that is where GAC became a “project”. I knew nothing about the successful methods & web funnels that The Big Coaches use. I knew little about the client management side of coaching. I had been in rooms of influence for years, and had managed clients for an agency, but coaching is a different thing. It’s business, but on a deeply personal level, and client relations must be handled accordingly.
So, I spent the first 18 months learning about how to “be a coach”, and finally started taking on clients in December of 2019, just before COV-ID began a month later.
The kinds of clients that showed up forced me to throw out almost everything I learned. Nothing about my quickly growing practice looked like being a traditional “life coach”, nor did I want to be one. A “life coach” to me was Tony Robbins, in a 10k suit & big capped teeth. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, yes;)?
I was deliberate in making “The Great Awake Coach Project” something different. The kind of clients that showed up (The Awakened & The Damaged) validated my decision.
Here are The Top 5 things I’ve learned since beginning The GAC Project.
#1: God exists deeply in my coaching work - and in my audience.
On my intro call w/potential clients, I would always ask “how did you find me?”. The response I often heard was, “God put one of your Telegram posts in front of me & told me I had to talk to you…”.
To this day I always think, “Let me get this straight - out of the whole internet, you found me on Telegram (a miracle alone;). On top of that, my message resonated with you so much you had to contact me? I agree - apparently God thinks we’re supposed to talk…”.
I knew years ago God laid this work on me as something that needed to be done. As it turns out, five + years later, I was right.
I’ve had clients experience spontaneous remissions of addictions like pills, gambling & weed - things I could never do on my own.
#2: My clients watch me - sometimes for months - before they contact me.
I deal with sensitive stuff in this work - the kind of stuff that you wouldn’t tell just anyone. That kind of trust takes a little while to develop, depending on where you’re at in your healing/growth process.
I’d watch me, too;).
The beautiful part is about this “long tail” client path is that by the time you show up at my virtual office in The Desert, you already know me to some extent. You’re already comfortable, my vibe resonated with you. That initial trust gives us the opportunity to have deep(er) conversations from the start. I prefer not to have clients around past the six-month marker, so the sooner we get to the main course, the better.

3: Everyone has a story, and everyone needs to be heard.
Coaching means wearing many different hats for different clients. One of the few constants in this work is that of being “a witness” for people’s Awakening & growth processes.
Acting as an effective witness involves creating an empathetic, “safe space” for my clients to talk openly & honestly. Don’t much care for that phrase “safe space”, but it seems appropriate in this work. This work can get deep & icky, and that emotional cushion is necessary for progress to occur.
A great witness is patient, persistent & non-judgmental. A wise witness/coach knows that the client WILL get there, but not without failing, first.
You cannot succeed without failure.
*NOTE: It’s important that I remind you - everyone is going through something right now, including myself. That’s what this Great Awakening process is - it is waking up, growing and changing on a planetary (and an individual) scale. This process of growth & change is the thing that makes us truly equal right now. No one is immune, no one escapes this period of time unchanged.
#4: Clients come to me at The End.
New clients were regularly telling me that they were at The End of Something Big in their lives. Everyone & everything was changing - and they needed help coping, managing & moving forward through a challenging period of time.
At the risk of sounding preachy, again I’ll say that’s what this period of time is all about…
letting go of what doesn’t serve us - individually and as a species. If it doesn’t serve a damn good purpose, if it only exists to drain us then it must go.
I teach my clients how to let go, how to take the charge out of the things that bleed you dry. As the old saying goes…
#5: When a client is ready to move forward, a great deal can be accomplished in a short period of time.
I’m happy to report that a high percentage of my clients show up when they’re meant to. I don’t have the time or interest to be an archeologist & attempt to dig up what’s really bothering you - no offense, yes?
Trying to solve a problem once-and-for-all won’t happen until there’s full acceptance of the problem, or even better, the source of the problem. If your problems are a mystery to you, you aren’t ready for coaching.
Again, no offense meant. My coaching is 30% looking back & letting go, and 70% moving forward, despite it all…
