Great Awake Coach DJ Mix:
The 1970's - AOR Soundtrack
I began my professional DJ career in 1989, at the ripe age of 19. I lied my way into my first gig, a biker bar called “Harley & Shelley’s”. Harley was a grizzled old dude who (supposedly) made his money from moving cocaine around back in the 1970’s, and Shelley was his bleach blonde wife, 30 years his junior.
One day I’ll tell the story of how I quit that job;).
In 30 years, I played everything from expensive weddings in Malibu to a wake for a dear friend’s mother (not kidding). I played at multi-million dollar corporate parties, I played snooty fashion shows, and I played to crowds of thousands of tripping hippies at music festivals around the world…
I don’t have to say it again, but I will. I got stories, kid.
An amazing time in my life, but I’ll be honest - I’m glad it’s over. I couldn’t have kept up the lifestyle. Ever see what a veteran roadie for a rock band looks like?
What’s not over though is my passion for music. My Awakening processes over the last 25 years have drastically changed not only how I view music, but what kinds of music I will allow myself to listen to. Music, like everything else in our culture, got weaponized and used against us.
So, imagine the conflict for someone who literally grew up in the music business to be shown the dark side of it. No one likes to have what they love destroyed…
Instead of getting bitter about it, I’ve chosen to continue to embrace music. There’s lots of electronic music, classical music, ambient music, jazz, blues & soul on here at The Office. Very little music with lyrics, and absolutely no modern pop, hip hop, rock or country.
NONE. I’ll explain why in another post, yes? This is already too long.
So, with all that, let me give you some great, conflict-free music. I feel like if I love still love these records (and the way they make me feel), so will you.
Enjoy your trip back to The Best Decade, The 1970’s.
